This project is above all a Manifesto and a Respect of a very rich culture with the greatest linguistic diversity in the world.
After a meeting with Paul Gardissat, probably one of the greatest Western guardians of the art and culture of Vanuatu, I discovered the sensitivity and beauty of the ART of Vanuatu.
This project is a memory and a celebration of local art. The project consists of a hotel, a private Clubhouse and its cultural center dedicated to the primitive arts of Vanuatu through the collection of Paul Gardissat.
For the realization of the Lodges, we were inspired by the traditional local grass skirts, bringing to the Lodge an Organic & Erotic form.
For the Clubhouse, we tried to make the architecture disappear to enhance the environment. The project is composed of pre-stressed “waves” allowing the various programs of the Clubhouse to disappear & appear while respecting the environment.
When the museum, it is composed of an addition of vaults placed one on top of the other with an offset to bring natural light throughout the space. We sought to create a flexible space to accommodate the most artistic events.
The museum’s permanent collection is supported by Paul Gardissat.
Using local crafts, the project defends and promotes the art of Vanuatu with modesty and ambition.
